Gilmour Space Technologies has just received a significant financial boost from the federal government, securing $75 million from the taxpayer-supported National Reconstruction Fund Corporation. This funding is part of a larger investment round where the company raised a total of $217 million, which also includes a contribution from the well-known superannuation fund, HostPlus, matching the NRFC's investment in this promising venture.

In light of the new funding, Gilmour Space has confirmed that this $75 million forms a vital part of the broader $217 million investment they secured in their most recent funding round. The funds will be allocated towards advancing the company's rocket technology and expanding operations at their Gold Coast facility as well as at Australia's sole Spaceport located in Bowen, North Queensland.
Adam Gilmour further expressed confidence in their team’s capabilities, stating that this investment reflects the trust investors have in their ability to build and maintain essential space infrastructure domestically. "We have achieved significant technical and business milestones, and our primary goal moving forward is to provide dependable and frequent access to space for clients both locally and internationally," he remarked.
Rebecca McElroy, an astronomer from the University of Southern Queensland, highlighted the significance of any investment in the Australian space sector for the nation’s economic future. While acknowledging that Australian companies may struggle to compete with major players like Elon Musk’s SpaceX, she emphasized that developing local capabilities is crucial. "This means that homegrown companies like Gilmour can compete for contracts with agencies such as NASA to manufacture components for rockets and similar projects," Ms. McElroy explained.
