Did You Know You've Been Saying Ranger Suárez's Name Wrong All This Time?
The Red Sox have officially signed Ranger Suárez, and the left-hander was introduced to the Boston media at Fenway Park on Wednesday. Suárez donned his new No. 55 jersey for the first time during the press conference.
During the event, Suárez shared an interesting fact about his name pronunciation. According to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald, Suárez wanted to clarify that his name is actually pronounced "Rahn-her" in its Venezuelan origin. However, he is perfectly fine with people pronouncing it in the English way, "Ranger."
This clarification comes as a surprise to many in Philadelphia, where Suárez's name has been pronounced as "Ranger" for over eight years. Suárez himself acknowledged this during his press conference, stating that he is comfortable with either pronunciation.
Suárez's $130 million contract with the Red Sox will keep him in Boston for the next five years. The Phillies will undoubtedly miss his presence on the mound and in the clubhouse, as he is known for his icy demeanor. You can watch Suárez's full introduction to the Red Sox on YouTube.
